From Tokyo Station to Koriyama City

When coming to Koriyama City, the most convenient and fastest way is to get on the Tohoku Shinkansen train (bullet train) at Tokyo Station, operated by JR East (East Japan Railway Company). Actual reservations, including the Tohoku Shinkansen train and Narita-express train (Express train between Narita airport and the central Tokyo area), will be possible on this web page. From Narita or Haneda, go to JR Tokyo station, where you can take Tohoku Shinkansen.

The chance of finding a vacant seat in a car with non-reserved seats is slim without a seat reservation. It’s safer to line up at Tokyo Station at least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time because it is a hectic season. It is about 1 hour and 20 minutes from Tokyo to Koriyama. Therefore you can still get on the non-reserved seat cars and stand between the seats.

The number of cars with non-reserved seats varies. Faster Shinkansen trains do not have non-reserved cars. In comparison, slower trains like “Yamabiko” and “Nasuno” have several cars with non-reserved seats. Especially some of the “Nasuno” is convenient for us because it runs only between Koriyama and Tokyo stations despite being slower than longer distance trains. “Nasuno” takes 1 hour and 40 minutes. For your return to the Tokyo area, including Haneda and Narita airports, when it gets seriously busier, it is an excellent idea to book your seats on any trains in advance at the Koriyama station (or through the website referred to above) or line up well in advance for “Nasuno” trains indicated below at Koriyama Station (the starting station).

Here is the “Nasuno” bound timetable for Koriyama and Tokyo. Please note that some “Nasuno” trains do not go to Koriyama station, and it is not included here. Please pay attention to which train you get on.
